About

Yampa Fire Protection District is the only all-volunteer fire district in Routt County.  Covering 389 square miles makes it the largest district in the county with much of our district being nonresidential areas.  With nearly 1,000 full-time residents in our district plus thousands of visitors annually, we are stay prepared to respond to any type of emergency.  We average about 100 calls per year, with a volunteer crew of fifteen volunteers.  About 60% of our calls are EMS, followed by motor vehicle accidents and fires.  With projected growth in the area, our call volume can expect to increase between 20 and 40% in the next 10 years.  The Town of Yampa is actively seeking growth and development within the town limits.  As a whole, Routt County is experiencing growth and development and this will impact our call volume.

Yampa Fire Protection District has mutual aid agreements with Rio Blanco and Garfield counties and provide initial response for incidents in their counties that are only accessible from our district.   We have mutual-aid or auto-aid agreements with the Craig Fire/RescueNorth Routt Fire Protection DistrictOak Creek Fire Protection DistrictSteamboat Springs Fire RescueWest Routt Fire Protection District & Yampa Valley Regional Airport ARFF.
